Community Council

The long and ambitious process of establishing the Bemke Campus is accompanied by a Community Council.

To participate in the Council, we aim to include people who know our local community thoroughly. We have therefore sent out invitations to people who meet one or more of the criteria on the list:

are active and act̨ locally in the areas in which the Campus intends to act,
are socially committed
are associated with locally important organisations or institutions,
are active members of neighbourhood communities,
have been recommended for participation in the Council,
observing their activities so far, we assume that in the future they will want to co-found the Campus,
represent̨ one of the age or social groups whose presence on Campus is particularly important to us.

Around twenty people have responded to our invitation so far. The work of the Council has been ongoing since November 2022.

What is and is to be in the future the Community Council?

First and foremost, we believe that a place like Campus Bemke needs participatory mechanisms. We will not create a good space and offer in the comfort of our offices. That’s why we’re keen to have a conversation about the local community, to get to know its needs in depth and to respond to them. We also know that there are many decisions that are best made in the wider community and as a result of longer deliberation. That is why the Council is intended to be a place for conversation.

A link

The creation of the Campus will be a process that will take a long time and will permanently change Kopiec and its immediate surroundings. Construction will certainly be an exciting process. We want members of our local community to know in real time where we are in the process, what stages we have completed and what is still to come. That's why the Council aims to be the group that will be the first to know how work on the Campus is progressing, and will be able to pass that knowledge on if they wish to do so.

Creating the offer

The Campus will be a place that offers great opportunities for participation and co-creation. Classrooms, performance and workshop rooms, studios, gardens, rooms, recreational areas - all of these will require not only people to come to use the offer, but also to co-create it. This is why the Council is intended to be a group that not only suggests what the community offer should look like, but also gets involved in co-creating it.

An experiment

Finally, the Campus Council is a kind of experiment. We are sure that when only twenty people acting for the benefit of our area gather in one room, the results can be extraordinary. Therefore, we are ready to see in which direction our Council will evolve.

In the work of setting up the Community Council and the community diagnosis, we are accompanied by the Shipyard Foundation www.stocznia.org.pl. The aim of this work is to lay the foundations for the best possible involvement of the local community in life on Campus. You can find out more about the participation process carried out together with the Shipyard Foundation here: Space for organisations and initiatives – Campus Bemke.
