On Saturday, 14 September, a unique event will take place in Klecza Dolna – the Harvest Festival, which will bring together the region’s inhabitants, local farmers and food producers, as well as lovers of healthy lifestyles and tasty, healthy cuisine.
This event, inspired by the rich tradition of harvest festivals, will not only be a celebration of harvest and health, but also an excellent opportunity to build strong social bonds. We invite everyone to celebrate together and express gratitude for what we have – local produce, the work of our farmers and the land that repays our care with healthy crops.
‘The Harvest Festival’ will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a solemn Holy Mass with the consecration of the harvest wreath. The liturgy will be honoured by a performance of the Schola Cantorum Minorum Chosoviensis – a male choir with almost 30 years of tradition, specialising in the singing of Gregorian chant, traditional songs and early vocal polyphony.
On this day, we want to recognise local farmers and food producers who care about the quality of what arrives on our tables. As part of the fair, their products will be available for purchase. We are working hard to make it diverse, so that everyone can experience the richness of their produce – from fresh fruit and vegetables to preserves, honey and cereal products. We will create opportunities to meet local producers, taste their products and learn about the stories behind them. Together, let’s promote healthy, local food and enjoy what is born in our fields and gardens.
- Through themed workshops, animations for children and competitions, we want to show how important it is to nurture traditions and pass on to future generations the values of respect for nature and the work of human hands. A shared ‘breakfast on the grass’ in the form of a picnic will be a moment in which we can feel a renewed sense of connection with the land and the community.
- Two competitions will be solved during the Harvest Festival: a competition for a dish made from local seasonal produce and a school competition for the ‘Best Cake with Gifts of Autumn’. The cakes taking part in the competition will be available in exchange for support for Julia from Kalwaria Zabrzydowska at a charity fair run in partnership with the Children’s Aid Army and the Pomóc Więcej Foundation.
- Although the event is a full-day event and will end in the late evening, don’t worry about meals during the day. The Campus Kitchen has prepared a special seasonal menu. In addition to the lunch dishes, cakes and produce on display at the fair, there will also be an opportunity to purchase lighter snacks on site.
- For families with children, we have planned a range of attractions – from folk dance workshops, animation and games, to educational workshops on silage making and butter churning, led by the ‘Zarąbianki’ Circle of Rural Housewives.
- In the evening, we will be treated to a special concert entitled ‘Za mną/Przede mną’, which will be held as part of the Krakow Archipelag Culture project and will be performed by pupils of the State Secondary Music School in Krakow.
- Immediately after the concert, we invite you to the last point of the programme: an open-air screening and meeting with the director of the film ‘Seed of Consciousness’ – Rafał Smykowski. ‘Ziarno Świadomości’ tells the story of agriculture that respects nature, touches on food security – local processing, co-operatives and conscious cooperation between the consumer and the farmer who loves the soil and cares for its condition.
It will be a time to think together about how we can take even better care of our land and its future, so that the abundance we celebrate on this day can also be enjoyed by future generations.
We invite all the region’s residents, gardeners, farmers, families with children and anyone who values healthy food and wants to get to know us to celebrate joyfully. Together we can build a strong, food-secure community that will be a role model for others.
