Last Saturday (8.02) an extraordinary event took place at Campus Bemke – a taekwondo exam! The 42 participants of the classes taught by Nikos – children, teenagers and even adults – took the exam, which was watched with great interest by their numerous family members and friends.
The exam included group presentations of the 10 basic taekwondo moves, elements of self-defence, individual demonstrations of kicks and other movement sequences, and even theoretical questions! There were also practical aspects – a group of teenagers demonstrated ways of self-defence in everyday situations (e.g. how to react to aggressive boys on the street). Finally, something everyone was looking forward to – breaking boards!
The participants were supervised by World Taekwondo Champion Konstantinos Chatzis, who came to us straight from Greece. Nikos introduced his master with great emotion, calling him his ‘second father’, which was met with huge applause. Konstantinos Chatzis spoke to the young athletes about the essence of taekwondo – building discipline, strength of character and holistic human development. He also encouraged further development in the sport, mentioning that he himself once started.
Applause to Nikos Lachanos for preparing all the participants for the exam! Congratulations on passing the exam!
Those who are keen are welcome to join taekwondo classes – the next exam is in June!
